Czech Junior Open 2023: Ukrainian squash players won 3 medals

From January 19 to 22, the European squash tournament of the super series category among juniors was held in the Czech capital, Prague. The Ukrainian team spent four days in the Czech Republic, winning awards and medals.

Our treasury contains 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal of European coinage. According to the results of the international tournament, Milena Velichko (girls under 17 years old) won, Dmytro Shcherbakov (boys under 19 years old) took an honorable second place, and Anna Tarasova (girls under 13 years old) took the third place.

Another European-level squash tournament among juniors held in the Czech Republic was held at a very high level. The participants had at their disposal the locations of 3 sports centers - Hector, SBC and Squash Point, games from which were broadcast live on playo.tv.

The result of the Ukrainian team can be considered successful - our juniors won three medals: sharing the third place with Romania in the overall standings. And the Poles won in Prague, beating us by four medals: Poland took awards in five age categories out of ten. The hosts of the tournament confirmed their status as one of the strongest in Europe, sharing second place with Bulgaria. This time they have four medals.

16-year-old Velichko Milena from Dnipro (category under 17) improved on her last year's result by winning her age category. The first seed, who started the sporting year at the British Junior Open, was again in fine form this time, beating Nóra Juhász [2] 11-7, 8-11, 11-9, 11-5 in the final.

What sucks, Dmytro Shcherbakov, it is not the first time that he rests on the laurels of a tournament in the Czech Republic. In 2022, Shcherbakov played in the category of boys up to 17 years old, where he managed to win gold. This year, first-seeded Dmytro Shcherbakov took 2nd place in the category of boys under 19 years, losing one step to victory to the second-seeded Frenchman Laszlo Godde [2] with a score of 11-5, 2-11, 8-11, 6-11.

The 5th racket among junior girls under the age of 13 was not left without awards - Anna Tarasova. The debutant of the Czech competition took the prized 3rd place in her age group.

A total of 17 squash players from Ukraine performed in Prague. In the top 10 according to the results of the matches played:
