French Junior Open 2023: results of the international squash tournament

The international squash competition French Junior Open 2023 (February 16 - 19) has ended in French Vambreche. The twenty-eighth annual super series tournament gathered 237 juniors at the territory of two clubs - Wam Club and Le Lil.

Ukrainian squash athletes finished the competition in the north of France without medals. It is worth noting that Ukrainian squash players are not frequent guests of this tournament, and only Alina Bushma (at the tournament in 2019) managed to conquer the podium in its entire history.

Four juniors represented Ukraine at the French Junior Open 2023 in squash - Myroslava Sperchun (GU15), Yehor Shcherbakov (BU15), Anastasia Krykun (GU17 and Dmytro Shcherbakov (BU19).

And the best result in France at the open squash championship was the eighth place of Dmytro Shcherbakov and Anastasia Krykun.

15-year-old Anastasia Krykun (under-17 category) made her debut at the French tournament. The 3/4 seed, thanks to the high rating (29 ESF racket) had a handicap and started the games from the second round. From the start, Anastasia won an undisputed 3:0 victory over her opponent Clemence PICHON [9/16], which allowed her to reach the semi-finals and already claim 5-8 place in the category.

In the same way as for Krynun, Dmytro Shcherbakov participated in the French tournament for the first time, and although the first seeded number in the category and past achievements predicted, if not victory, then prize places, but it did not work out. Perhaps it was due to an injury or poor health, because Shcherbakov surrendered the semi-final and final match for 5-8 place to the opponent, ending the game after the first game.

The games ended less successfully for our youngest players, unfortunately, Myroslava Sperchun and Yehor Shcherbakov took 13th and 23rd place, respectively.
