Individual European Championship 2018: Bushma at the tournament in Poland
French and English squash drivers, the first seeding numbers in the men's and women's categories on Polish courts took gold. But there is reason to be proud of the performance of the Ukrainian participant, who showed a good game and confirmed the strength of our squash school.
Victor Crouin with Lucy Turmel easily confirmed their right to be called the strongest squash driver in Europe in the U19 category.
As for the performance of our players. Separately, I would like to note that only guys from Ukraine previously took part in the U19 UEFA European Championship: Dmitry Pogrebnyak and Mikhail Sorochev (Walkover), but girls this year for the first time performed in this tournament. One of the best squashists in our country, a member of the women's team - Alina Bushma became a debutante among Ukrainian women. Her European rating allowed her to be 9/12 seeded in the tournament.
Yes, Alina Bushma dropped out of the fight for medals predictably - as you know, her opponent in the quarter finals was more than serious. Later she lost in two meetings, taking the final 8th place. But here it is worth noting that our junior got very difficult rivals. 3/4 seeded Karyna Tyma still had crazy support from native stands, and 2/2 seeded Georgia Adderley is considered the strongest squash player in Scotland and has a large number of victories at home international tournaments. For Alina, this is a good indicator - as mentioned above, the squash brush performed at 9/12 seeding numbers. So the athlete's achievement only once again proves the worthy level of the Ukrainian squash school. In any case, Alina has gained vast experience in wrestling and training, which will be very useful to her in the future. And now we will expect new victories from her in international team competitions.
Our women's team, which includes Alina Bushma, is ahead of the next major championships under the auspices of ESF. In April, the European Team Championships will take place (in Riga, Latvia). And there, we hope, our players will once again be able to demonstrate how strong Ukrainian squash is today.
